Jason's vows

First.

Brian and I have an ongoing contest to be the first person each day/night to sleeplessly text one word—“First”—to the other after the clock strikes midnight.

Depending on the kind of day we’ve had, the text sometimes comes later than that. 

As a night owl, I usually win.

I honestly don’t remember how or when this tradition started. 

But I believe it began for a reason—and with a quiet admission. 

Every time I hit send, I look over at you and the dogs curled up in bed and think,

"You will always come first in my life."

Which is ironic, of course, since my vows are second today.

And in that moment, I say a little prayer of gratitude—that life brought me here,

And brought us to each other.

So today, I say it out loud,

And not at midnight.
You will always be first.
Even if I fall asleep early.
And even when I forget to text,

Know that you’re my Saturday.

You’re my number one.

Though I should mention—the snoring has gotten a little out of control. And I think it’s influencing the dogs. 

Maybe we can try Breathe Right strips?

But truly, from the bottom of my heart, and the deepest depth of my soul, I say this:
